Position: Director of Process Engineers

This is a direct hire opportunity with our client in Louisville, Kentucky.

Position description:
  • The Director of Engineering will work cross-functionally with the division's outside sales team to address customer needs and lead process or automation engineering, service, and shop personnel in delivering cost-effective, engineered-to-order solutions.
  • This role manages the daily activities of the engineering team, ensuring effective project execution, resource alignment, and team performance.
  • In addition to operational leadership, the Director will contribute to strategic planning, align engineering efforts with company goals, and support innovation and growth initiatives.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all activities and personnel in the Division Engineering, Shop, and Service departments.
  • Collaborate with the Division General Manager and Corporate VP of Engineering on leadership and special projects.
  • Develop staff through goal setting, performance reviews, and career planning.
  • Provide visionary leadership, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Create and manage the Division Engineering budget.
  • Evaluate customer opportunities, develop project estimates, and support sales presentations.
  • Review engineering designs, drawings, and proposals for accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prioritize and assign work to Engineering, Service, and Shop personnel.
  • Lead project teams to meet customer requirements and internal performance targets.
  • Mentor team members and develop engineering talent.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and third-party partners.
  • Ensure safety practices and promote a positive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering; MBA or master's preferred.
  • PE license preferred.
  • At least 7 years leading engineering teams, with experience in engineered solutions and project management.
  • Experience in industrial product or system design for at least 5 years.
  • Leadership skills in work planning, team development, and strategic planning.
  • Background in continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, etc.).
  • Proficiency with engineering project management, budgeting, and design software.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%.
  • Culturally fits with a family-owned enterprise.
