Company Overview

The organization is entering a pivotal period of transformation. After decades of founder-led operations built on deep industry intuition with limited documented processes, the company is shifting toward a more structured, scalable, and growth-focused model. As part of the ownership transition, the founders will remain involved for up to three years to support knowledge transfer. However, long-term success requires modernization of systems, workflow discipline, and a more defined commercial structure.

To support this evolution and to enable the company’s plan to grow from approximately sixty million to one hundred twenty million in the next three to five years, a Director of Preconstruction position is being created. This role will introduce standardized processes, enhance commercial rigor, strengthen estimating operations, and improve the effectiveness of the bid to award pipeline.

About the Role

The Director of Preconstruction will lead and modernize all front-end commercial activities from invitation to bid through project award. This leader will build consistent processes, strengthen estimating coordination, enforce CRM discipline, develop workflow standards, and elevate customer engagement with the goal of improving both efficiency and win rates.

The ideal candidate brings strong construction industry experience, preferably with deep drywall knowledge, and the ability to build scalable systems, coach teams, and bring structure to a fast-evolving environment. This is a confidential and high-impact leadership role designed to support succession planning and long-term organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Modernization

  • Create a modern preconstruction framework aligned with long-term growth objectives
  • Document institutional knowledge and transform it into standardized, repeatable processes
  • Establish a culture of structure, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Implement best practices in estimating, bid strategy, and commercial pipeline management

Preconstruction Operations and Bid Lifecycle Management

  • Lead the full preconstruction process from invitation to bid through award
  • Oversee scope interpretation, bid qualification, estimator assignments, and coordination of multiple scopes
  • Review bids for accuracy, competitiveness, profitability, and clarity
  • Maintain strong alignment between estimating priorities, timelines, and workload expectations

Drywall Expertise Highly Preferred

  • Provide subject matter expertise on drywall systems, wall types, materials, and labor requirements
  • Support estimators on complex takeoffs, value engineering opportunities, and risk assessment
  • Train and mentor the team on drywall pricing logic, production impacts, and competitive differentiators

Process Development, CRM Management, and Reporting

  • Own CRM standards to ensure accurate and transparent pipeline visibility
  • Develop process workflows for tracking invitations to bid, follow-ups, submissions, and communication
  • Build reporting tools that improve forecasting, estimator utilization, and conversion tracking
  • Analyze bid performance metrics and implement plans to improve win rates

Customer Engagement and Strategic Win Optimization

  • Strengthen relationships with general contractors, owners, and key partners
  • Coach team members on presenting bids, handling negotiations, and influencing award decisions
  • Contribute to pricing strategy development, qualifications, and market intelligence efforts
  • Lead structured follow-up efforts to maximize bid conversion and uncover new opportunities

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Project Handoff

  • Ensure accurate and complete handoffs to Operations including scopes, clarifications, assumptions, and alternates
  • Play a key role in shaping team structure, talent development, and long‑term departmental growth
  • Enhance coordination and communication between estimating, operations, and leadership
