Job Purpose
The Roadmap Policy Director will lead collaborative efforts to advance policy innovation as
part of SC Roadmap (https://scroadmap.org/), a collective impact style coalition to improve
health outcomes by understanding and addressing nonmedical needs that influence health
at the individual and community level. This position is unique because it will function as a
member of the IMPH team as well as the SC Roadmap team.
This position is based in Columbia, SC and office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday through
Friday. We have a hybrid schedule with the option to work from home 2 days a week.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 15 years of health care and/or public health policy-informing work with
increasing levels of responsibility OR a master’s degree, at least 10 years of health care
and/or public health policy-informing work with increasing levels of responsibility.
Ability to travel in and out of state.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience
Experience in developing and maintaining positive relationships with diverse stakeholders
and partners, specifically with governmental agency leadership, elected officials, and those
working in the health care and public health delivery systems.
An understanding of and experience working with state health policy, specifically, Medicaid
policy and policies that address the nonmedical drivers of health like food and housing
insecurity, and transportation barriers.
An understanding of and experience working with local level health policy, specifically,
policies that address the nonmedical drivers of health, the built environment, and valuebased
payment and reimbursement models.
Experience researching, authoring, and editing policy reports.
A commitment to professional excellence.
Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, flexibility in a dynamic environment and
the ability to perform as part of a small team are essential for success.
Skilled in balancing competing priorities, time management, and follow-through skills are
Ability to be self-directed and work independently as well as contribute as a part of a team.
Role Responsibilities
Represent IMPH in SC Roadmap efforts, including with other staff members and with the
Governance Council and Community Voices Advisory Board and work with teams to align,
co-design, implement, and assess policy-informing activities.
Promote IMPH’s brand of nonpartisan convener with partners and audiences.
Research trends and best practices from across the southeast in reimbursement policy
related to payment for nonmedical needs.
Recommend policy approaches to address nonmedical needs of South Carolinians as
prioritized by the SC Roadmap Common Agenda (currently under development).
Stay abreast of current events, media narratives, and emerging trends that impact health and
health-related social needs policy.
Other duties as assigned.
Key Relationships
The Roadmap Policy Director will work closely with all members of the IMPH Team and will
be supervised by the IMPH Executive Director. The Director will collaborate with the IMPH
Legislative Engagement Manager to position the Roadmap effort to members of the South
This role will work closely with the Social Determinants of Health Initiative Director at the
Center for Community Health Alignment and the Manager, Community Health & Social
Drivers of Health at the South Carolina Hospital Association.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may supervise Graduate Assistant(s).
Salary Range
$90,000 to $100,000
