Job summary

Thea Energy seeks a Director of Diagnostics to lead the plasma diagnostic suite for its planar coil stellarator systems. You will guide design, implementation, and operation of diagnostics measuring temperature, density, confinement, magnetic topology, and impurities to validate physics models and feed real-time control loops.

Responsibilities include strategic leadership, team and lab management, system integration, and collaboration with AI/software teams and national labs to accelerate

Qualifications

PhD in a relevant field with 8+ years in diagnostics on fusion devices.
Experience leading diagnostic teams and managing budgets.
Expertise in multiple diagnostic modalities.
Ability to collaborate with software and AI teams.

Responsibilities

Define the diagnostics roadmap for the Eos device and future plants.
Recruit, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary diagnostics team.
Oversee the design of interferometry, reflectometry, Thomson scattering, magnetics, spectroscopy.
Coordinate with software/AI for real-time machine optimization.
Engage with national labs and academia for partnerships.
