Job summary

The Chicago Community Trust is seeking a Director of Gift Planning to lead a strategy engaging professional advisors for charitable planning and to structure complex gifts from donors up to $100,000,000.

The role develops donor relationships, coordinates with legal and tax experts, and represents the Trust at conferences while guiding gift arrangements, bequests, and life-income gifts. Juris Doctor preferred; seven years of related experience required.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree (Juris Doctor strongly preferred).
• Seven years of charitable gift planning, estate planning, tax planning, or financial planning experience with charitable or for-profit institutions.
• Deep knowledge of the legal and tax laws related to nonprofits and charitable giving.
• Deep understanding of investment management principles for charitable assets.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
• A self-starter who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

• Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward professional advisory relationships.
• Collaborate with Finance to structure complex gifts and fund agreements.
• Present on legal and tax aspects of charitable giving to varied audiences.
• Draft articles and speak at conferences about gift planning topics.
• Staff board and committee meetings and manage advisory committees.
• Travel as required to engage donors and professionals.
