Job summary

The Salvation Army Midland Divisional Headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri seeks a Director of Gift & Estate Planning to promote, develop and secure planned gifts within the Midland Division.

This full-time, exempt role (40 hours/week) offers opportunities to collaborate with the Planned Giving Department and major gifts staff. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree with four years in development or related field, strong communication, and the ability to travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years proven experience in development/related field.
• Combination of training and experience will be considered.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Requires working knowledge and skill in computer software applications to including word processing, spreadsheet, database and e-mail.
• Must be a team player, self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision.
• Ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to work under pressure and deadlines.
• Capable and willingness to travel, sometimes for consecutive days.
• Must have a valid drivers’ license and pass TSA MVR check.

Responsibilities

• Solicit and secure deferred gifts from prospects and donors for Salvation Army services within policies.
• Work with planned giving director to establish annual goals and objectives.
• Develop and implement cultivation and ongoing stewardship of prospective and current donors utilizing moves management.
• Identify and qualify donor/prospects and build planned giving committees with various stakeholders.
• Prepare deferred giving proposals for prospects, attorneys, donors.
• Utilize marketing plans including direct mail, newsletters, and targeted mailings as directed by THQ/leadership.
• Perform public speaking opportunities for professional communities and the public on estate planning.
• Assure all electronic donor data and gift production information is accurately processed with Midland Planned Giving.
• Work with major gifts officers on cultivating and stewarding shared donor assignments.
• Participate in development department meetings and activities; pursue professional development.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe from Harm guidelines.
