Job summary

UCSF Health is seeking an experienced Unit Director to lead perioperative services in Oakland and Walnut Creek. Under the Senior Director, Surgical Services, you will develop staff, ensure patient care programs, and drive quality assurance across the operative continuum.

You will mentor nurse leaders, manage resources and budgets, coordinate care policies, and collaborate with medical directors to promote evidence-based practice and magnet standards in a dynamic academic medical center

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of nursing OR management experience in perioperative services.
• Pediatric experience.
• Registered Nurse licensed in California at start date.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing required; Master's preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare IT, workflows, and processes.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance environments.
• Magnet principles and collaborative governance knowledge.
• AHA BLS certification required; CNOR or nursing admin certification preferred.
• Ability to pass background check and work across UCSF Health locations.
• Academic medical center experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement operational processes for quality patient care across the perioperative continuum.
• Partner with leadership to coordinate care policies and procedures for all patient populations.
• Provide mentorship and leadership to nurse leaders, reviewing and approving development plans.
• Coordinate resource needs, including budgetary recommendations and variance analyses.
• Promote collaborative decision-making and shared governance in nursing practice.
• Represent nursing units on interdisciplinary committees addressing patient care topics.
• Manage employee recruitment, performance evaluation, and staff development.
• Collaborate with management to maintain adequate staffing levels and advise on administrative issues.
• Instill strong management practices to foster teamwork and timely goal achievement.
• Design and coordinate patient flow with a focus on patient satisfaction.
• Work with labor relations and IT to support perioperative services across locations.
