Job summary

The University of Maryland is seeking a Director of Operations for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Reporting to the Chair, the role plans and directs all administrative, financial and operational activities for CEE, including affiliated centers such as CATT and MTI.

The director will oversee finances (~$51M), payroll (347 employees), space utilization and faculty affairs (26 tenured/tenure track and ~158 professional track).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Ten years of professional experience in HR, payroll, budget, finance, facilities management, procurement, or managing business operations.
• Five years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.
• Knowledge of HR policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable HR laws.
• Data analytics and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and direct all administrative, financial and operational activities for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE).
• Advise the Chair and departmental faculty on policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
• Oversee departmental finances (~$51M), payroll (347 employees), space utilization and faculty affairs (26 tenured/TT + ~158 professional track).
• Lead large-scale grant proposals and strategic planning efforts.
