Job Title:Directorof Nursing – Surgical Services
Department:Surgical Services (OR, Day Surgery, Pré/Post PACU, Endoscopy,Central Sterile & Supply, Anesthesia)
Reports To:Chief Nursing Officer
Location:East Houston Medical Center – Houston, Texas

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing for Surgical Services providesexecutive oversight and strategic direction for all perioperative departments,including Operating Rooms, Day Surgery, OPS, Pre- and Post-PACU, Holding, PACE,Central Sterile Processing, Anesthesia, and Endoscopy. This leader ensures thehighest standards of clinical excellence, patient safety, and operationalperformance are achieved in alignment with East Houston Medical Center’smission and values.

Thisposition is accountable for the consistent delivery of high-quality,cost-effective, and patient-focused care through effective staffing, clinicaloversight, regulatory compliance, and partnership across multidisciplinaryteams. The Director actively cultivates a culture of collaboration,empowerment, and continuous improvement, ensuring that nursing practice meetsboth state and national standards of perioperative excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providestrategic, administrative, and clinical leadership over Surgical Services,ensuring safe, quality-driven, and efficient patient care across all areasof responsibility.
  • Developand implement operational goals, quality measures, and performanceimprovement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and departmentalefficiency.
  • Ensurecompliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and clinical standardsrelated to perioperative care and hospital policy.
  • Managethe departmental budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resourceoptimization while maintaining patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Lead,mentor, and develop nursing leadership and staff to achieve professionalgrowth, team engagement, and exceptional service delivery.
  • Collaboratewith physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams tomaintain seamless coordination throughout the surgical continuum of care.
  • Overseeand monitor staffing levels, skill mix, and workforce developmentstrategies tailored to current and projected surgical volumes.
  • Serveas a visible leader and role model of nursing excellence, clinicalprofessionalism, and patient-centered care.
  • Support evidence-basedpractices, clinical innovation, and ongoing education within SurgicalServices.
Requirements

Education and Certification

Required:

  • Bachelorof Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
  • CurrentRegistered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas
  • BasicLife Support (BLS) certification
  • PediatricAdvance Life Support (PALS) certification
  • PerioperativeLeadership and Administration (PLAS) certification, a plus

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree inNursing (MSN) or related healthcare leadership field
  • Certified NurseOperating Room (CNOR) certification

Experience Requirements

  • Minimumof 1–2 years in a nursing management or supervisory role
  • Provenleadership experience within an acute care hospital setting
  • Strongbackground in Surgical Services or Perioperative Nursing Practice
