Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus in Topeka, KS seeks a Day Shift Director of Nursing to provide 24-hour leadership for assigned units and ensure the highest standard of patient care across the ICU, PCU, telemetry, and related services.

You will lead administrative, financial, and clinical activities, mentor nursing leaders, monitor quality and satisfaction metrics, and forge strong collaborative relationships with physicians within a people-first, growth-oriented culture.

Qualifications

• BSN from an accredited nursing program.
• Current RN license valid in the applicable state.
• Minimum 3 years of critical care nursing experience, with 2 years in management.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour leadership and oversight for assigned nursing units.
• Direct, coordinate, and evaluate units in accordance with policies and laws.
• Lead development of leaders and staff through mentorship.

• Leads clinical and operational oversight of a 16-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 8-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Telemetry Unit, and Critical Care Float Pool, driving excellence in patient care, quality outcomes, employee engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration across critical care services.

Responsibilities

• The nurse director is a professional registered nurse with twenty-four-hour responsibility for assigned departments within established standards to achieve the mission and vision of the organization.
• The nursing director is responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit/departments and executes supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• The nurse director provides leadership and mentorship in the development of leaders and staff.
• The nurse director is responsible for monitoring and evaluating quality, patient satisfaction, and employee satisfaction outcomes to implement strategies for improvement.
• The nurse director is a change agent and will establish strong collaborative relationships with physicians.
• Responsible for overall administrative, financial, and clinical activities of assigned departments.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• Bachelors in nursing from an accredited school of nursing required. Effective 9/1/19 if applicant does not have a BSN - must be enrolled in accredited BSN program with scheduled date of completion.
• Current RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the applicable State Board of Nursing.
• Minimum of 3 years' critical care nursing experience of which 2 years must have been in management capacity.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Master's degree in nursing and/or related field
• Certification in clinical specialty or nursing administration
