Director of Nursing-Emergency Department

Location: Tucson, AZ

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $97,988 – $155,000 annually + up to 10% AIP Bonus

About the Role

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing – Emergency Department for a hospital in Tucson, AZ. This role provides operational and clinical leadership for the Emergency Department (ED), ensuring safe, high-quality patient care and the effective management of staff and resources. The ED includes 38 beds, 2 trauma bays, and manages 8–15 traumas daily. The Director will oversee approximately 60 FTEs and serve as the key leader in driving patient outcomes, staff engagement, and departmental performance.

This is a 24/7 responsibility position at the Director level, with primary coverage during the day shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the Emergency Department.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Develop, implement, and monitor nursing practice standards and policies.
• Support and mentor charge nurses, managers, and clinical staff.
• Collaborate with the CNO and hospital leadership to align department goals with organizational strategy.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation for approximately 60 FTEs.
• Oversee trauma and emergency operations across 38 ED beds, including 2 trauma bays.
• Maintain accountability for budget performance, productivity, and departmental outcomes.
• Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and patient-centered care.

Education

• Required: Associate degree in Nursing with a Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field or BSN.
• Preferred: MSN or Master’s in a healthcare-related field.

Experience
