Position Summary

The Director of the Nursing Education Department reports to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). They provide overall planning, direction, coordination, management, and supervision for the Nursing Education Department, focusing on staff education and education for nursing throughout the organization. They consult with Nurse Educators, staff nurses, physicians, and Nurse Executives to ensure that patient and staff needs are met. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining nursing policies and procedures, serving as a resource, and allocating resources to promote effective staff and patient education, leading to excellence in patient care. They provide clinical and administrative leadership, facilitate participative management, and promote professional nursing practice. The Director also represents the organization positively and professionally.

Education and Certification
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current RN licensure in Connecticut
  • Professional Certification (highly desirable)
  • Certification in BCLS and ACLS upon hire or within orientation period
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Experience
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience in an acute care setting with leadership potential
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience in Nursing Education
  • At least 1 year in an administrative role with excellent presentation skills
Competencies
  • Effective communication in English (verbal and written)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to operate instructional and patient care equipment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role includes participating in policy formulation, supporting organizational policies, developing and evaluating educational programs, participating in quality improvement, managing staffing and scheduling, promoting staff and patient satisfaction through education, managing budgets, addressing human resource concerns, coordinating with educational institutions, assessing patient care needs, collaborating with staff and medical personnel, and serving as a professional role model and mentor. The Director supports and empowers staff aligned with organizational values.
