Summary

The primary purpose of the Director of Nursing position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of our Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The role involves ensuring the highest quality of care, in collaboration with the Administrator and Medical Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing service department, ensuring compliance with regulations. Develop and update policies and procedures. Report on departmental operations to the Administrator.
  2. Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care. Maintain quality assurance programs. Participate in surveys and develop plans to address deficiencies. Assist with discharge planning and administrative duties.
  3. Determine staffing needs for each shift, assign qualified personnel, develop work schedules, and delegate responsibilities. Conduct daily rounds to oversee staff performance.
  4. Assist in performance evaluations, ensure fair disciplinary actions, and maintain personnel records. Support infection control programs, including TB management and safety protocols.
  5. Report occupational exposures and ensure safety procedures are followed. Review nursing notes, monitor medication administration, and coordinate ongoing education for staff.
  6. Collaborate with the MDS/Care Plan Coordinator on resident care planning. Maintain confidentiality of resident information and report incidents of unauthorized disclosure.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Registered Nurse with current licensure.
  • Proficiency in English. Strong team player with tact and knowledge of healthcare laws and practices.
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively. Good communication skills for resident and family interactions.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to move intermittently, cope with stress, and meet health requirements.
  • Capability to lift at least 25 pounds and assist in emergency evacuations.
