Freedom Behavioral Hospital of Plainview, Texas is a 20‑bed acute geriatric psychiatric facility located in Plainview, Texas.

We are looking for an experienced Director of Nursing (DON). Previous psychiatric experience in an acute setting is a must. Strong preference is given to candidates with prior geriatric psychiatric experience. Key qualities for this position include teamwork, team development, and team training.

The Director of Nursing is responsible for upholding the standards of care established by regulatory and accrediting bodies and for providing oversight and direction to all direct‑care nursing staff.

• Ensure the unit is staffed safely and according to protocol; assist nursing staff with decision‑making, clinical judgment, medical staff communication, and provide direct patient care when indicated.
• Serve as nursing administrator on‑call when needed and provide direct oversight to the nursing staff.
• Participate in the QAPI process, monitoring, tracking, and analyzing nursing data.
• Develop nursing schedules in a timely manner.
• Coordinate nursing care to patients within scope of practice, complying with policies, procedures, and standards.
• Collaborate with Human Resources on hiring and termination of employees in the nursing department and complete performance evaluations as scheduled.
• Work with Intake and the Service Development Department to facilitate timely admissions and maintain accurate admission criteria documentation.
• Serve as a member of the Utilization and Treatment Team, contributing to communication of patient goals, interventions, and assessments.
• Act as a resource for all administrative, nursing, and direct‑care staff in formulating policies, procedures, forms, and processes affecting the nursing department and patient care.
• Ensure survey readiness through regulatory compliance and quality standards of care.
• Collaborate on facility projects and program development to oversee accurate, safe development, and implementation of patient care.
• Participate as a member of the leadership team within the facility.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Education: Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing minimum, with MSN oversight; Masters‑prepared Nurse strongly preferred.
• License: Current RN License in good standing with the State of Texas.
• Experience: Previous psychiatric management experience is preferred.
