Job summary

Health Dimensions Group is seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) for a skilled nursing facility in Rapid City, SD. Qualifications

Join Our Team as a Director of Nursing (DON)!

HDG’s client in Rapid City, SD is seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) to lead the nursing department across their skilled nursing facility. What You’ll Do (AKA: Your Superpowers ️️ )

Lead Nursing Operations & Strategy:

  • Oversee 24-hour nursing care, ensuring alignment with all state and federal regulations.
  • Develop and revise policies, procedures, and departmental objectives for optimal care delivery.

Supervise & Support a Multi-Level Nursing Team:

  • Provide direct supervision to nurses, CNAs, administrative support staff, and department leaders.
  • Complete and oversee all performance evaluations, training programs, staffing plans, and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop and update job descriptions, performance standards, and professional expectations for nursing personnel.

Ensure Regulatory Compliance & Quality Standards:

  • Monitor and guide the development of MDS documentation and care plans per federal and state guidelines.
  • Lead the Infection Control program, behavior care planning, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in and support quality assurance and leadership committees.

Foster Team Collaboration & Communication:

  • Serve as a liaison between nursing, administration, and ancillary departments to promote coordinated care and planning.
  • Interpret resident care needs and collaborate on long-range program development.
  • Respond to and investigate resident complaints, incidents, and staffing concerns in partnership with HR.

Oversee Financial & Operational Efficiency:

  • Manage departmental budgeting, staffing levels, and resource utilization to support quality and sustainability.
  • Evaluate products, services, and procedures to promote resident and staff safety.

What You Bring to the Table (Besides Your Clinical Leadership Skills )

Education & Licensure:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) currently licensed in the state of South Dakota
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Experience & Expertise:

  • At least 5 years of experience in long-term care or geriatric nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or DON-level leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid standards strongly preferred.

Skills & Traits:

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Strong decision-making abilities in emergency, compliance, and clinical settings.
  • Ability to promote resident dignity, ethical care, and a collaborative team environment.

Commitment & Flexibility:

  • Must be available for on-call responsibilities.
  • Willing to assume Clinical Manager duties when needed.
