JOB TITLE: Director of Nursing

SUPERVISOR: Chief Medical Officer

HOURS PER WEEK: 40/Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Nursing Services

HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Reporting to the chief medical officer (CMO), the director of Nursing is responsible for the overall performance, planning and day-to-day clinical care operations within the organization. Provide leadership to clinical staff in competencies and compliance standards, implement, maintain, and standardize clinical practice to ensure consistent safety, quality and experience of care. Serve as a subject matter expert for clinical care standards and lead multi-disciplinary teams across TPC to bring best clinical practices and transformative care to the organization. Create and support a cohesive strategy for nursing leadership across the organization. Participate in short- and long-term strategic planning and actively promote the mission of the organization by assuring the achievement of overall quality, service, and performance improvement outcomes. Assure compliance with applicable regulations and standards of accreditation. Work with the appropriate teams to achieve the quality and cost objectives that drive value to patients and the community consistent with TPC’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
1. Provide oversight, leadership, mentorship to clinical staff ensuring competencies and compliance standards are met.*
2. Implement and maintain care delivery models to deliver safe patient care, superior quality outcomes, operational effectiveness, and superior patient care experience.*
3. Serve as a subject matter expert for clinical care standards.*
4. Develops, implement and maintain nursing policies and procedures that conform to current standards of care and while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.*
5. Ensure nursing practice is withing the scope as defined by the rules and regulations of the Oregon State Board of Nursing and that clinical staff are practicing within their scope of practice as defined by the rules and regulations of the appropriate governing body of licensure or certification.*
6. Conduct routine site visits to foster staff engagement and identify opportunities for enhancing efficiency and quality of care.*
7. Hold regularly scheduled nursing and clinical staff meetings.*
8. Communicate and interpret policies and procedures to clinical staff. Help identify and implement best clinical practices and workflows across the organization.*
9. Provide guidance to clinical staff to identify developmental needs and strategies that foster effective problem-solving, collaboration, consultation, and sound clinical judgement within the appropriate scope of practice. Direct practices toward identifying barriers or gaps in clinical competencies.*
10. Partner with the CNE’s, clinical supervisors and clinic leadership to implement and train clinical staff on best practice, policies, and procedures across the organization. Collaborate to create and implement effective education and training materials for clinical staff.*
11. Lead initiatives in problem-solving and serve as an agent of change and key resource to leaders, providers, and other stakeholders to identify, communicate and implement strategic and operational framework to coordinate the desired level of clinical quality and safety, and minimize unwarranted variation in the experience of care.*
12. Ability to work within Epic EMR as appropriate to provide support to clinical staff. Meet regularly with the Epic team and as necessary to collaborate on clinical workflows.*
13. Ensure quality documentation of care, and optimization of Epic tools in clinical workflows.*
14. In collaboration with the executive team, assist in design, development, implementation and ongoing management of services to ensure that services and products are being provided in a cost-effective and efficient manner to achieve cost of care goals.*
15. Ensure that nursing and clinical resources are sufficient to provide appropriate levels of clinical care.*
16. Partner with the Director of Operations on a regular basis to ensure success of daily operations.*
17. Provide an appropriate level of clinical leadership and engagement with administrative branch leadership.*
18. Maintain excellent interpersonal communication skills, including problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, employee relations and appropriate progressive discipline management.*
19. Ability to work collaboratively across internal and external leadership teams.*
20. Regularly attends key committee meetings including Quality Management Committee, Leadership Council, Clinical Event Escalation meetings. Ensures information is brought timely to meetings and report back to identified stakeholders.*
21. Participates in clinical peer review process as requested.*
22. Maintains regular communication with Chief Medical Officer.*
23. Prepares and performs focal reviews for Clinical Nurse Educators, Anti-Coagulation team, Occupational Health RN, Diabetes team, and other clinical teams as appropriate. Works with administrative branch leadership to coordinate reviews for clinical staff as appropriate.*
24. Monitor the regional and national healthcare environment for states of change (emerging diseases, vaccination updates, etc.) and work with medical leadership in developing a timely and appropriate response through updated clinical workflows.*
25. Participate as an active care team member in a patient-centered medical home.
26. Attend work regularly as scheduled.*
27. Other duties as assigned.
