Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing department.
We are seeking a strong clinical leader who is passionate about providing exceptional care to residents and developing a successful nursing team. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills along with extensive knowledge of long-term care operations and Nebraska regulatory requirements.
As Director of Nursing, you will work closely with the Administrator and facility leadership team to ensure our residents receive the highest level of quality care while supporting, educating, and developing our nursing staff.
The Director of Nursing plans, organizes, develops, and directs the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with applicable federal and Nebraska laws, regulations, professional standards, and facility policies.
The DON is responsible for providing clinical leadership and oversight while promoting resident safety, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, staff accountability, and a positive working environment.
Direct and oversee the daily operations of the Nursing Department.
Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and support to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, CMAs, and other nursing personnel.
Ensure residents receive appropriate, timely, and high-quality nursing care.
Monitor nursing documentation and ensure resident records are complete, accurate, and compliant.
Oversee resident assessments, changes in condition, care planning, physician notifications, and clinical follow-up.
Participate in and provide oversight of the interdisciplinary care planning process.
Work closely with residents, families, physicians, nursing staff, therapy, social services, and other departments to coordinate resident care.
Establish clear performance expectations and hold nursing staff accountable for meeting facility standards.
Recruit, develop, educate, and retain qualified nursing staff.
Provide education and leadership to nursing staff across all shifts.
Monitor staffing needs and work collaboratively with facility leadership to maintain appropriate nursing coverage.
Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Maintain knowledge of federal and Nebraska regulations governing skilled nursing and long-term care facilities.
Prepare for and participate in state and federal surveys.
Respond appropriately to survey findings and assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of Plans of Correction.
Ensure required state and federal reporting is completed accurately and timely.
Investigate resident-care concerns and ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation.
Ensure allegations involving abuse, neglect, exploitation, mistreatment, or other reportable events are immediately addressed and reported in accordance with applicable requirements.
Maintain effective communication with the Administrator and other members of the facility leadership team.
Promote a professional, respectful, accountable, and resident-centered culture throughout the Nursing Department.
Ensure facility policies and procedures are consistently followed.
Must possess a current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Nebraska and maintain the license in good standing throughout employment.
Previous nursing leadership experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing setting required.
Previous Director of Nursing experience in a Nebraska long-term care facility strongly preferred.
Five years of supervisory experience preferred.
Five years of nursing management experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of long-term care nursing practices, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Experience with state surveys, regulatory compliance, state reporting, and Plans of Correction strongly preferred.
Strong leadership and staff-development abilities.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lead by example and effectively communicate with employees on all shifts.
Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, physicians, staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, accountability, confidentiality, and sound clinical judgment.
