Job summary

Alexander Milne Developmental Services in Mandeville, LA is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing department and ensure safe, high-quality care for residents. The DON will drive clinical excellence, staff development, and regulatory compliance while collaborating with administration and physicians.

The DON will oversee nursing operations, supervise personnel, coordinate assessments and care plans, monitor quality metrics, and maintain infection control programs.

Qualifications

• Louisiana RN license or Multi-State RN license required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in nursing administration or a comparable management position.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the nursing department and delivery of resident care.
• Implement and maintain nursing policies and procedures in accordance with current standards and regulations.

Job description

Alexander Milne Developmental Services is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly organized Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing department and help ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care to our residents.

This is a leadership-level position for a Registered Nurse who is committed to clinical excellence, staff development, regulatory compliance, and the overall well-being of the individuals we serve.

The Director of Nursing assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services within the facility.

Working closely with facility administration, the DON oversees nursing operations, supports nursing staff, coordinates resident care, monitors quality and compliance, and collaborates with physicians, families, consultants, interdisciplinary team members, and regulatory agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and oversee the nursing department and delivery of resident care
• Implement and maintain nursing policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of nursing practice and applicable state and federal regulations
• Maintain knowledge and oversight of the facility's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
• Communicate nursing policies and procedures to staff and monitor compliance
• Review daily reports and ensure timely responses to significant changes in condition, falls, injuries, behavioral episodes, transfers, discharges, and medication errors
• Ensure adequate nursing coverage and delivery of compassionate, quality care
• Participate in management team meetings regarding resident status, census, staffing, complaints, and concerns
• Supervise, evaluate, and manage nursing personnel
• Oversee resident assessments and care plans
• Collaborate with physicians, consultants, and interdisciplinary team members to resolve identified concerns and improve quality of care
• Establish and monitor the facility's infection control program
• Prepare and support nursing staff for regulatory and inspection surveys
• Assist with Plans of Correction and required Quality Assurance follow-up
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, medical professionals, nursing staff, department heads, and interdisciplinary team members
• Promote excellent customer service and hospitality
• Address and resolve resident and family concerns regarding nursing services
• Participate in 24-hour on-call responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Louisiana RN license or Multi-State RN license
• Minimum 3 years of experience in nursing administration or a comparable management position
• Current CPR certification
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of electronic medical records and documentation
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively with nursing staff, residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
• Availability to participate in an on-call capacity

Preferred

• Experience with ICF/IID or long-term care management
• Knowledge of facility policies and regulatory requirements
• CPR instructor/teaching certification
