Job summary

Horizons Care Center, part of Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS), is seeking a Director of Nursing. This role leads the Nursing Service Department, overseeing budgeting, staffing, and regulatory compliance to ensure high-quality resident care.

The successful candidate will manage licensed and ancillary staff, coordinate unit activities, and drive wage and staffing decisions. Located in Colorado, with a schedule Mon-Fri 8am-5pm and occasional weekends/on-call rotation with the ADON.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school and currently licensed as an RN in Colorado.
• Minimum of three years of administrative and supervisory experience in long-term health care.
• Able to work flexible hours and respond to staffing needs.
• Ability to use computers for timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Directs and delegates the management functions of licensed and auxiliary personnel.
• Coordinates activities of nursing units and maintains relationships with staff, medical personnel, residents and the public.
• Interviews and hires department staff or oversees the process if delegated.
• Conducts performance evaluations and approves wage changes.
• Determines staffing levels to meet residents' care needs.

What You Bring (Requirements)

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently registered with the State Board of Examiners for Registered Nurses in the state of Colorado.
• Minimum of three (3) years administrative and supervisory experience in a long-term health care setting. Has knowledge of Transitional care including skilled and unskilled rehabilitation nursing or related experience.
• Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during a staff shortage or emergency situation.
• Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.

What You’ll Be Responsible For The Director of Nursing is responsible for the planning, budgeting, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with current Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern the facility to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times in accordance with the Budget and Operation Plans of the organization. Responsible for ensuring that an adequate level of services is provided to each resident, documented appropriately and regularly evaluated. Responsible to ensure the utilization of Volunteers of America National Services core clinical systems.

• Directs and delegates the management functions of licensed and ancillary personnel.
• Coordinates activities of various nursing units, promotes and maintains harmonious relationships among nursing personnel, and with medical staff, residents and the public.
• Interviews and hires department personnel or monitors and evaluates the process if delegated to another person. Counsels and/or disciplines employees on infractions of established rules; terminates employees when needed.
• Conducts performance evaluations and approves established wage changes.
• Determines the number of professional and non-professional staff necessary to meet the nursing care needs of the residents.
