Job summary

Deerfield Academy seeks a Director of Music to lead the Music Program, teach two courses per term, and conduct the Deerfield community Orchestra. The role requires collaboration with Arts and campus colleagues to deliver an excellent, engaging program for students.

The Director will supervise adjunct faculty, manage program resources, and engage families through performances and exhibitions. Strong DAW and notation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of leadership experience within a musical organization or school music program.
• Proficiency with and ability to instruct students in DAW tools.
• Significant experience using Sibelius, or similar music notation software.
• Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Set and maintain the mission and vision of the Music Program, aligning with Deerfield Academy’s values.
• Promote and organize public demonstrations of the Music Program, including performances and events.
• Collaborate with Arts and other departments to foster a collegial campus environment.
• Serve as Head Coach of the Music Co-curricular for three terms and coordinate service performances.
• Recruit, supervise, and support adjunct Music Faculty and part-time instructors.
• Advise students and liaise with families to engage with Music opportunities.
