Job summary

U.S. Bank seeks an experienced Model Validation Director for Consumer and Payments within Risk Management and Compliance.

This executive will lead independent model risk oversight, challenging model design, data and performance across multiple business areas. The role requires deep knowledge of Consumer/Payments modeling, strong leadership and the ability to translate complex quantitative issues into business decisions and risk concepts.

Qualifications

• Advanced quantitative degree and 10+ years of relevant modeling/model risk experience, with significant leadership experience.
• Deep experience in Consumer and/or Payments modeling, across underwriting, credit scoring, pricing or analytics.
• Strong knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, AI and model performance assessment; proficient in Python, SAS, R and/or SQL.
• Demonstrated experience developing and validating sophisticated models and evaluating internally developed and third-party models.
• Strong understanding of data, model implementation, monitoring and lifecycle practices.
• Ability to connect quantitative issues to business decisions, outcomes and risk implications.
• Strong executive communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead advanced quantitative teams.

Responsibilities

• Leads a highly skilled quantitative team responsible for independent validation and model risk oversight across Consumer and Payments.
• Provides independent challenge of model design, methodology, data, implementation, performance, monitoring and business use.
• Maintains knowledge of leading modeling practices and emerging techniques, including ML/AI.
• Develops understanding of business strategies and model applications to assess risk and impact.
• Provides MRM perspective on internal, vendor and hybrid modeling approaches and ensures independence.
• Identifies broader themes to strengthen model quality, development practices, monitoring and lifecycle.
• Communicates model risks and validation conclusions to senior management and regulators.
• Builds and develops strong quantitative talent.
