TITLE:Director of Maintenance Control
REPORTS TO:SVP Technical Operations

About the Role:

The Director of Maintenance Control (DMC) leads GlobalX's Maintenance Control function, providing 24/7/365 oversight of aircraft airworthiness release, technical dispatch reliability, and real-time maintenance decision-making across the operation. The DMC serves as the central point of coordination between Maintenance, Flight Operations, Dispatch, Line Maintenance stations, and third-party MRO providers, ensuring every aircraft released to service meets the airworthiness standards of 14 CFR Parts 91, 117, and 121, GlobalX's OpSpecs, and — where applicable — ETOPS requirements. This role owns after-hours and off-shift planning, technical troubleshooting escalation, interdepartmental communication protocols, and the development of a bench-ready Maintenance Control team.

Minimum Qualifications:

• FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate required; IA and/or Dispatcher certificate preferred.
• 7–10 years of Part 121 aviation maintenance experience.
• 3–5 years in Maintenance Control/MOCC leadership.
• Working knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 91, 117, 121 and ETOPS.
• Demonstrated leadership and team development experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Airbus A320/A321 maintenance experience.
• FAA CMO/PMI interaction experience.
• Experience with CASS, SMS, and reliability programs.

Responsibilities:

After-Hours & Off-Shift Planning

Design and maintain 24/7/365 Maintenance Control coverage, including a documented on-call and escalation matrix for nights, weekends, and holidays.

Ensure sufficient staffing depth so that no single point of failure exists in after-hours technical decision-making, AOG response, or maintenance release authority.

Own the after-hours notification tree connecting Maintenance Control to the Director of Maintenance, Director of Quality, Director of Safety, and station leadership for events requiring escalation outside business hours.

Review after-hours event logs each morning to identify recurring discrepancies, delayed decision-making, or coverage gaps, and drive corrective action.

Technical Troubleshooting & AOG Resolution

Provide, or ensure Maintenance Controllers provide, real-time technical guidance to line stations and MRO partners on complex discrepancies, including engine, bleed air, hydraulic, avionics, and structural events.

Direct the resolution path for Aircraft on Ground (AOG) events, balancing safety, regulatory compliance, and operational recovery, and know when to elevate to Engineering or the OEM technical representative.

Maintain and continuously refine troubleshooting reference material, event log analysis practices, and MEL/CDL decision support tools used by the Maintenance Control desk.

Lead root-cause analysis on recurring or high-impact technical events and translate findings into reliability program input and CASS reporting.

Interdepartmental Communication

Serve as the primary conduit between Maintenance Control, Dispatch, Flight Operations, Crew Scheduling, Station Operations, and MRO vendors during active events.

Maintain a standardized communication protocol (who is notified, in what order, by what channel) for AOG, diversions, MEL/CDL application, and irregular operations.

Partner closely with the Director of Quality/Chief Inspector and the Director of Safety on findings that intersect airworthiness, quality escalations, or Safety Management System (SMS) reporting.

Represent Maintenance Control in daily operations calls, irregular operations (IROPS) briefings, and cross-functional planning sessions.

Schedule & Maintenance Planning Oversight

Oversee coordination between Maintenance Control and Maintenance Planning to ensure scheduled maintenance visits, AD/SB compliance windows, and letter checks do not conflict with operational demand.

Monitor fleet utilization and maintenance due-list status to anticipate schedule risk before it becomes a dispatch reliability problem.

Support Line Maintenance and Planning leadership in sequencing unscheduled discrepancies into upcoming maintenance visits without compromising turn times or crew/aircraft availability.

Review punch/duty schedules for Maintenance Control staff to confirm adequate coverage and FLSA-compliant scheduling practices.

Leadership Development & Team Management

Directly lead, mentor, and evaluate Maintenance Controllers, building a structured on-the-job training and qualification path for controller certification and advancement.

Develop and deliver recurrent training on Part 121/117/91 regulatory changes, ETOPS procedures, MEL/CDL application, and internal escalation protocols.

Build succession depth within the Maintenance Control team so the desk is never dependent on a single individual's knowledge.

Foster a just-culture reporting environment that encourages controllers to surface errors, near-misses, and process gaps without fear of reprisal.

Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and development planning for direct reports.

Documentation, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Ensure Maintenance Control logs, discrepancy records, and release documentation meet FAA recordkeeping standards and are audit-ready at all times.

Support CASS monthly reporting, mechanical reliability reports, and internal audits with accurate, timely Maintenance Control data.

Identify process improvement opportunities in Maintenance Control workflow, tooling (including AireXpert or equivalent maintenance tracking systems), and documentation standards.

Skills:

Strong technical troubleshooting, regulatory compliance, leadership, communication, decision-making, analytical, and operational coordination skills in a 24/7 airline maintenance control environment.

Work Environment:
