Job Description

The Director of Learning Services serves as the school’s primary advocate and resource for students with learning differences, ensuring they receive accommodations, support, and guidance necessary to achieve academic success. This role collaborates closely with students, families, faculty, administrators, public school districts and external service providers to identify student needs, develop individualized support plans and monitor progress.

As the only diocesan Catholic school serving students in grades six through twelve, Bishop Dunne is proud to reflect the rich diversity of Dallas. More than 75% of our students identify as students of color, and approximately half are Catholic.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary advocate for students with learning differences, fostering their academic success and overall well-being.
  • Coordinate instructional accommodations, testing supports, assistive technology, and communication among teachers, staff, students, and families.
  • Meet with students and parents to discuss learning styles, study skills, self-advocacy, and strategies for academic achievement.
  • Conduct classroom observations and review academic performance data to identify student needs and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor accommodation plans and individualized support strategies.
  • Assist students with course selection, academic planning, and long-term educational goals.
  • Collaborate with administration on master scheduling and student placement decisions.
  • Monitor student progress and effectiveness of academic support services and interventions.
  • Maintain and manage a resource center that supports students with learning differences.
  • Serve as a liaison between families, public school districts, and relevant educational agencies.
  • Act as the primary contact for physicians, psychologists, and other professionals regarding diagnoses such as ADHD and other learning disorders.
  • Coordinate and oversee approved testing accommodations, including extended time, oral administration, and other documented supports.
  • Organize and supervise accommodated standardized testing, including AP, PSAT, MAP Growth, and other school-based assessments.
  • Collaborate with College Board as the SSD Coordinator, submitting student accommodation paperwork and communicating the process with families for all College Board assessments.
  • Participate in the admissions and interview process for students with learning differences.
  • Obtain, review, interpret, and apply recommendations from psychoeducational, psychological, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Maintain confidential records related to student accommodations, assessments, and support services.
  • Serve as a resource for families through orientations, conferences, open houses, seminars, and individual consultations.
  • Communicate assessment results and explain diagnostic recommendations to parents, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with external service providers, public school personnel, and community resources to support student success.
  • Provide professional development and training for faculty and staff on best practices for supporting students with learning differences.
  • Consult with teachers regarding accommodations, instructional strategies, modifications, and intervention plans.
  • Facilitate effective communication among faculty, staff, families, and outside professionals regarding student needs.
  • Attend faculty, counseling, and student support meetings as required.
  • Participate in Diocesan counselor network meetings and other professional organizations.
  • Support school crisis intervention and student wellness initiatives.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree with certification in special education.
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities, ADHD, educational accommodations, and intervention strategies.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
