Job summary

Volunteer Properties is seeking a Director of Learning & Development to build, develop, and retain the people who drive our multifamily communities forward. • Assess training needs and develop programs for employees, managers, and emerging leaders.
• Lead training on leadership, performance management, and customer service.
• Manage the performance-management process and provide managerial feedback tools.
• Create career pathways and leadership development for managers and emerging talent.
• Analyze turnover, engagement, and recruiting data to drive improvements.

Volunteer Properties is looking for a Director of Learning & Development to help build, develop, and retain the talented people who drive our multifamily communities forward.

Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, this role will lead key initiatives across talent acquisition, onboarding, training and development, performance management, leadership development, engagement, and retention. You'll work closely with business leaders to turn organizational needs into practical, people-focused solutions across our multi-state portfolio.

What You'll Do

• Lead recruiting strategies and processes for on-site and operational positions.
• Partner with hiring managers to improve sourcing, interviewing, selection, and the candidate experience.
• Build and oversee consistent onboarding programs, including 30-, 60-, and 90-day milestones.
• Assess training needs and develop engaging programs for employees, managers, and emerging leaders.
• Lead training initiatives covering leadership, communication, performance management, customer service, fair housing, safety, workplace conduct, and company systems.
• Manage the performance-management process and equip managers with tools to set expectations, provide feedback, and develop their teams.
• Build career pathways and leadership-development programs for community managers, maintenance leaders, first-time managers, and emerging talent.
• Analyze turnover, engagement, recruiting, and performance data to identify opportunities and recommend solutions.
• Support employee engagement, recognition, retention, and organizational-change initiatives.
• Partner with leadership on acquisitions, new properties, technology implementations, policy changes, and other organizational initiatives.

What You Bring

• Experience in learning & development, talent management, recruiting, HR, or a related field.
• Experience with managing LMS Systems and tracking progress. Experience in Grace Hill Policy Writer is a plus.
• Experience designing and delivering training for employees and managers.
• Strong recruiting, interviewing, and talent-development skills.
• Experience with performance management and leadership development.
• Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organizational and project-management abilities.
• A practical, collaborative, and data-informed approach to solving people and business challenges.
• Experience in multifamily, property management, hospitality, or another multi-site environment is a plus.
