Job description

Director of Information Technology & Information Systems (IT/IS)

Sedron Technologies is hiring a talented Director of IT/IS in Chicago, IL, Bellingham or Sedro-Woolley, WA, or remotely in the US. Sedron is a leading provider of circular waste management technologies for agricultural manure and municipal biosolids processing, deploying facilities across several North American regions.

About the Position

The Director of Information Technology & Information Systems reports to the Chief Financial Officer and holds primary accountability for the strategic direction, implementation, and ongoing governance of the Company’s IT and IS infrastructure. This role leads the organization's technology roadmap across enterprise systems, operational technology (OT) integration, cybersecurity, data management, and end‑user support — ensuring that technology investments directly enable Sedron's mission to design, build, commission, and operate advanced water and waste upcycling solutions.

The Director leads a team of IT professionals and managed service relationships, works with business users to understand business needs, sets standards and priorities across both corporate and field-deployed environments. This is a high‑autonomy position requiring the ability to balance long‑range planning with hands‑on execution in a manufacturing and field operations context.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a multi‑year IT/IS roadmap aligned with Sedron's operational and growth objectives
  • Establish and enforce IT governance policies, standards, and procedures across the organization
  • Evaluate, recommend, and oversee adoption of new technologies to improve efficiency, scalability, and security
  • Manage IT budgets, vendor contracts, and technology procurement decisions
  • Work with end‑users to understand technology needs and upcoming system requirements
  • Oversee design, deployment, and maintenance of network, server, cloud, and end‑user computing infrastructure
  • Ensure high availability and reliability of enterprise systems including ERP, CRM, document management, and business intelligence platforms
  • Lead integration efforts between corporate IT systems and operational technology (OT) environments, including PLCs, SCADA, and remote monitoring systems deployed at facilities
  • Manage disaster recovery, business continuity, and system backup programs
  • Define and maintain Sedron's cybersecurity posture, including policies, access controls, vulnerability management, and incident response procedures
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks and security requirements
  • Conduct or oversee regular security assessments and drive remediation of identified gaps
  • Oversee data architecture, governance, and integrity across enterprise and operational data systems
  • Support development and maintenance of data products that enable informed decision-making across the business
  • Establish clear roles and accountability within the IT function as the team scales
  • Serve as the primary technology advisor to senior leadership and department heads
  • Collaborate with engineering, project delivery, and operations teams to support technology needs for capital projects and field deployments
  • Support compliance, legal, and HR teams with systems and data needs related to regulatory reporting and internal audits
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including at least 3 years in a director-level or equivalent role; experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial operations environment strongly preferred
  • Relevant certifications preferred: CISSP, CISM, PMP, ITIL, or equivalent; certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise infrastructure (on‑premise and cloud), ERP and CRM platforms, IT/OT integration, cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001), data management, and managed service oversight; familiarity with industrial networking protocols (e.g., PROFINET, Modbus, MQTT) a plus
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading concurrent, cross‑functional technology initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to build and develop high‑performing technical teams
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data to drive decisions and measure outcomes
  • Comfort operating in a fast‑paced, resource‑conscious environment with evolving priorities
  • High integrity and sound judgment when handling sensitive data, systems access, and vendor relationships
Benefits
  • Multiple medical, dental, and vision insurance options
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays (plus 2 floating holidays)
  • Disability, Life, and AD&D Insurance
  • FSA and HSA options with employer contributions
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Casual work attire — no suits required
Additional Information
  • Compensation: $170,000 - $240,000 annually, plus discretionary bonus opportunities
  • Approximately 10% travel to support Sedron facilities
  • Pay range transparency: the expected compensation is provided above and may be adjusted for regional cost‑of‑living differences
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; no visa sponsorship available
