Job Details: Job Location: Barton College - Wilson, NC, Salary Range: Undisclosed, Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Health Services & Dean of Students, the Director of Residence Life and Chief Judicial Officer is a live-on, full-time, 12-month administrative position with on-call responsibilities. The Director provides strategic vision, leadership, and oversight for the Office of Residence Life and the campus student conduct process.

This position plays a critical role in fostering a residential environment that promotes student learning, personal development, accountability, and community engagement. The Director oversees housing operations, residential education, crisis response, and judicial processes while advancing the mission and strategic priorities of Barton College.

The Director also serves as a Title IX Deputy Coordinator under the leadership of the Director of Title IX and serves as an administrative resource to students, families, faculty, staff, and campus leadership.

Essential Functions
  • Represent Barton College by exemplifying professionalism, respect, and a commitment to student educational development in all interactions.
  • Provide strategic leadership for all residential facilities, including openings, closings, occupancy management, safety protocols, and documentation.
  • Oversee housing assignments, room changes, room selection processes, and maintain accurate residential rosters.
  • Oversee room, furniture, and key inventory systems.
  • Assume fiscal responsibility for the Office of Residence Life, including budget development, management, grants, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Utilize StarRez and Jenzabar EX (or current institutional systems) to administer housing operations, manage residential student data and applications, and provide training to professional staff.
  • Provide oversight of the Barton card access system in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Collaborate with AVI Fresh and other campus partners regarding residential dining processes.
  • Serve on College committees as appointed.
Residence Life Staff Supervision and Development
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate professional Residence Life staff and Administrative Support for Campus Life.
  • In collaboration with Coordinators, recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate Graduate Assistants and Resident Assistants.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Residence Life training program for professional and student staff.
  • Design, maintain, and revise the Residence Life Manual and associated policies and procedures.
  • Lead the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, and measurable student learning outcomes consistent with the College mission.
Residential Education and Community Development
  • Develop and sustain a residential community that promotes student rights and responsibilities, service learning, leadership development, personal growth, and accountability.
  • Establish measurable operational goals and student learning outcomes for the residential experience.
  • Serve as Chief Judicial Officer, providing oversight and management of the student conduct process.
  • Ensure equitable, educational, and developmentally appropriate conduct practices aligned with institutional policy.
  • Serve as a member of the Title IX leadership team, as directed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of College regulatory policies, including Clery, Title IX, FERPA, fire safety, and related federal and state regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and College administration, faculty, and staff.
Crisis Response and On-Call Responsibilities
  • Maintain regular on-campus presence and availability to residents.
  • Participate in and oversee professional on-call rotation.
  • Coordinate Residence Life crisis response efforts, including campus emergencies, student mental health crises, deaths, injuries, and other critical incidents.
  • Partner with campus safety and senior leadership during emergency situations.
Institutional Collaboration
  • Partners with departments across the Division of Student Engagement and the College to advance programs, services, and institutional priorities.
  • Support Student Engagement initiatives and strategic planning efforts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Health Services & Dean of Students.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Leadership, Counseling, or a related field (required).
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in housing and student life administration with student conduct oversight experience (including Title IX cases).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, conduct administration, and residential education best practices.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations impacting higher education housing, including Clery, Title IX, FERPA, and fire safety requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with sound judgment and integrity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and student information and housing management systems, including StarRez and Jenzabar.
