Overview

Ensure that the cleanliness standards of the guestrooms, meeting areas, public areas, and back-of-the-house are met through the optimal training, staffing, and supervision of labor, efficient management of operating supplies, and proactive monitoring of guest service scores and comments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are specific contributions that must be developed during the training program to successfully complete the program and be placed in a hotel with or without reasonable accommodation:

  1. Plan, organize, and monitor staff workload to ensure compliance with cleanliness and maintenance standards, which requires continuous visual and written inspections of guestrooms and public space areas.
  2. Develop housekeeping and laundry budgets.
  3. Implement controls for expense management.
  4. Conduct periodic inventory of guest supplies, small equipment, and linen as required.
  5. Utilize labor management tools to schedule and control labor costs.
  6. Schedule labor to align with forecasted hotel occupancy, food and beverage activity, and group events.
  7. Interview, hire, train, develop, evaluate performance, resolve issues, communicate clearly, and recommend discipline or termination when appropriate for staff members.
  8. Provide clear verbal and written directions to staff.
  9. Interact positively with guests and resolve issues to maintain high customer satisfaction and quality.
  10. Evaluate the condition of furniture, fixtures, and decor; make recommendations and assist in coordinating maintenance and rehab projects.
  11. Ensure compliance with housekeeping and laundry standard operating procedures and policies.
  12. Operate department in accordance with OSHA requirements and guidelines.
  13. Maintain regular attendance and be available to work as scheduled.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience
  • 5+ years of management experience, with at least 3 years in housekeeping management.
  • Experience managing in-house laundry operations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of housekeeping and laundry operations and individual job requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other department leaders.
  • Conflict resolution skills for guests, supervisors, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to assist co-workers and be a team player, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Knowledge of hotel operations, including marketing, security, safety, personnel, budgeting, quality assurance, hospitality law, and planning.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences.
