Job summary

Marshall University in Huntington, WV seeks a Director of HERD Cares to provide mental health and sport psychology services to student-athletes and oversee daily HERD Cares operations. Requires a Master’s or higher in a relevant field, WV licensure or eligibility, and proven college-student mental health experience; CMPC preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related mental health field.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health provider in West Virginia with ability to obtain licensure within timeframe.
  • Experience providing mental health services to college students, athletes, or high-performance individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health and sport psychology services to Marshall University student-athletes and coordinate day-to-day delivery of HERD Cares programming.
  • Support student-athlete well-being and performance through confidential clinical services, mental performance consultation, crisis support, and education; collaborate with the student-athlete support team.
  • Reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Welfare.

Position Title

Director of HERD Cares

Job Description

The Director of HERD Cares provides mental health and sport psychology services to Marshall University student-athletes and coordinates the day-to-day delivery of HERD Cares programming. This position supports student-athlete well-being and performance through confidential clinical services, mental performance consultation, crisis support, education, and collaboration with the student-athlete support team. The Director of HERD Cares reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Welfare.

Salary Range

$44,918 - $58,393 - Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity

Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.

Required Qualifications

Education
Master’s degree or higher in counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related mental health field.
Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health provider in the State of West Virginia, with the ability to obtain appropriate West Virginia licensure within a specified timeframe following hire.
Demonstrated experience providing mental health services to college students, athletes, emerging adults, or individuals in high-performance environments.
Demonstrated education, training, or experience in sport psychology, mental performance, performance psychology, or a closely related area.
Knowledge of professional ethics, confidentiality, and applicable laws and regulations governing mental health practice.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary environment.

Experience
Two years Counseling experience, crisis intervention experience. Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in job description.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing mental health or mental performance services within collegiate athletics.
Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) credential or progress toward CMPC certification.
Experience developing or facilitating mental wellness, sport psychology, or mental performance programming for individuals or teams.
Experience working with NCAA student-athletes or within another high-performance environment.
Experience collaborating with coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning professionals, or other members of an interdisciplinary performance team
