Marshall University Athletics is seeking a Director of Financial Operations & Reporting to lead budgeting, reporting, and financial controls for the department. The role ensures accurate recording, reconciliation, and visibility into expenditures and commitments, supporting strategic decisions and compliance.

The position focuses on improving internal processes, coordinating with procurement and accounts payable, and delivering timely reports to athletics leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Run and review regular budget and financial reports for Athletics leadership and stakeholders.
  • Open PO and Invoice Management: monitor, reconcile, and coordinate with Accounts Payable.
  • Account & Transaction Reconciliation: reconcile P-Card, purchasing, invoice, and deposits; fix errors.
  • Financial Visibility & Analysis: report on budgeted, spent, committed, invoiced, paid and outstanding balances.

Position Information

This role provides the reporting and reconciliation infrastructure that gives Athletics leadership an accurate picture of budget vs. actual vs. committed expenses and ensures financial transactions are properly recorded, reconciled, and resolved.

Financial Reporting & Budget Monitoring

Run and review regular budget and financial reports, providing leadership and coaches with visibility into budgets, actual expenditures, commitments, and available balances.

Open PO & Invoice Management

Monitor open purchase orders and outstanding invoices, reconcile activity, coordinate with Accounts Payable and Procurement, and ensure aging items are resolved and closed in a timely manner.

Account & Transaction Reconciliation

Regularly reconcile P-Card, purchasing, invoice, and deposit activity; identify posting or coding errors; and ensure corrections are completed accurately.

P-Card & Financial Transaction Administration

Manage P-Card reconciliation and monitoring, miscellaneous deposits, Big Green deposit entries, recruiting settlement/Dynamics entries, and hotel and rental car payments.

Financial Visibility & Analysis

Provide comprehensive reporting that shows what has been budgeted, spent, committed, invoiced, paid, and remains outstanding, including identifying variances and potential financial exposure.

Processes & Internal Controls

Develop consistent reporting, reconciliation, and tracking processes that improve accuracy, accountability, audit readiness, and overall financial controls within Athletics.
