Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking a Director or Manager, Foundation Relations for Berkeley Lab Foundation. The role partners with Lab leaders to identify, cultivate, and solicit foundations and institutional funders, building a robust donor pipeline and coordinating with UC and DOE guidelines.

The position offers collaboration across scientists and development teams, with a focus on strategy, grants ranging from six figures to multi‑million dollars, and a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years fundraising experience in science or technical programs.
• Proven success securing foundation and/or corporate grants.
• Experience growing a foundation or institutional giving program.
• Track record of securing five- to six-figure grants, including $1M+ awards.
• Strong research and analytical skills; ability to translate complex science for funders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work autonomously in a small team.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Translate research priorities into fundable cases for foundation/institutional funders.
• Surface cross-disciplinary funding opportunities with institutional funders.
• Draft proposals, LOIs, and stewardship reports.
• Coordinate with contracts, financial, and operations teams to manage funds.
• Grow Berkeley Lab Foundation’s foundation and institutional giving pipeline.
• Build relationships with foundation and corporate giving officers.
• Lead donor engagement activities and events with leadership and scientists.
• Ensure compliance with DOE/UC/IRS regulations in gifts and grants.
