Job description

The Portal House is a members club for leaders and creators who want to live their healthiest, happiest lives — a community of changemakers across technology, business, arts, culture, and wellness, in a thoughtfully curated environment built for connection, inspiration, and well-being. Our first location opened in Mill Valley, CA in 2024; our second opens in the Austin, TX area in 2027, giving hospitality professionals the chance to help shape the club experience from the ground up.

The role

The Director of Food & Beverage leads all culinary and beverage operations at our Austin club — kitchen, bar, and floor. Reporting to the General Manager and leading the Executive Chef and Head Bartender, you'll own menu and beverage programming, set service standards, and deliver an exceptional member experience while running the numbers behind it.

What you'll do

  • Lead F&B across a multi-floor venue — kitchen, bar, and floor service
  • Oversee the Executive Chef and Head Bartender; hire, train, schedule, and develop the F&B team
  • Drive menu and beverage development — a wellness-forward food program and a beverage program that takes zero-proof as seriously as the cocktail list
  • Own vendor relationships, inventory, cost controls, and pricing; administer the tip pool
  • Partner with club leadership on events and wellness-focused offerings
  • Maintain quality, safety, presentation, and health/TABC compliance; track performance and improve workflows

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of F&B leadership with oversight of both kitchen and bar/service; prior Director, AGM, or senior F&B role
  • Strong culinary and beverage knowledge, with a focus on quality, innovation, and wellness-oriented menus
  • Proven ability to drive member satisfaction through high-touch hospitality and consistent standards
  • Budgeting and cost-control strength: inventory management and vendor negotiation
  • Experience building and managing diverse teams — hiring, training, performance management
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and food-regulation compliance; TABC and Food Handler certification, or ability to obtain before opening
  • Private club, boutique hotel, or premium hospitality background preferred; Toast POS familiarity a plus
  • Able to work on-site in the Austin, TX metro, including evenings, weekends, and events
  • Relevant education in hospitality management or culinary arts, or equivalent experience

Why The Portal House

  • Help define the F&B identity of a growing members club at its second location, with competitive pay and benefits, a team that sweats the details, and a predictable rhythm (busy Thursday–Saturday, lighter early week).
