Located three miles south of downtown Dallas, the 106-acre Dallas Zoo is the oldest and largest zoo in Texas. Founded with just two deer and two mountain lions in 1888 as the first zoo in the Southwest, this City of Dallas-owned but privately managed zoo is a thriving example of a successful public-private partnership. As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) for 35 years, the Zoo provides a home for more than 2,000 animals representing over 400 species.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis will provide analysis and interpretation of financial data for use by management and other key stakeholders. The position will use financial modeling techniques and data analysis to support internal strategic decisions related to pricing, return on investment of capital and other projects, and cost benefit analysis of operating scenarios. This position will work closely with the CFO and other leaders to collect, analyze, and benchmark financial and other data to drive informed business decisions.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct financial analysis, modeling, forecasting, and reporting to ensure efficient financial operations.
• Develop financial analytic tools and robust financial models to provide insight to key stakeholders for strategic business decisions.
• Develop systems to track, analyze, and report on capital project budgets, expenses, and funding.
• Design and update rolling forecasts and dashboards to provide timely and actionable information.
• Leverage existing technology to provide more robust analysis and automate manual functions.
• Support the budget process by collaborating with leadership to analyze and interpret data and inform decisions.
• Support the CFO and accounting team in achieving departmental goals by performing special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
• BS or MA in Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field
• Three to five years of progressive financial analysis experience including the development of models, reports and dashboards
• Experience leveraging technology to utilize financial data, insight, and efficiency
• Keen analytic and problem-solving skills and extensive technical abilities
• Advanced knowledge of Excel as well as other analytic and modeling tools and technology.
• A self-starter who is able to work well independently and with a team.
• Ability to lead projects and foster collaboration with others to accomplish goals in a fast paced and deadline driven environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data to stakeholders at every level of the organization.
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the Dallas Zoo mission.
• Able to work flexible hours as necessary to meet deadlines.
