A prominent educational institution is seeking a Director of Financial Aid to lead financial aid operations and support students' educational needs. The role involves supervisory tasks, compliance with financial aid regulations, and fostering a positive environment for students. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and relevant experience to ensure effective financial aid management.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Works under the direction of the Vice President of Finance who reviews work for effectiveness and conformance with policy.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Financial Aid works closely with students and their families in determining eligibility for financial aid to assist with their education expenses. In conjunction with the VP of Finance this person assists with the development of the plan for distribution of financial aid, management of financial aid policies and procedures, and gathering, maintaining and distributing essential financial aid data.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Planning, supervising and evaluating financial aid operations for the university
Responsible for awarding, disbursing and reconciling all federal and state aid, as well as university grants/scholarships in accordance with laws and policies
Supervision of financial aid staff
Preparation of state and federal reports
Exercise professional judgment in reviewing all financial aid appeals
Create and foster an atmosphere of “student first” in regard to communicating with students/families about their financial aid and understanding the costs of education
Meeting individually with prospective students and families
Build and facilitate intraoffice and interoffice communications. Integrate as part of a total enrollment team.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The candidates selected for hire will be part of a highly motivated, hard-working enrollment management team and will gain much experience working as a part of this team, but also must be capable of working independently, able to successfully multi-task in a fast paced environment and be intrinsically motivated to do an excellent job on behalf of the University. Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some
other combination of skills and abilities. This is full time, in person, on campus position.
Organized and professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills
In-depth knowledge of financial aid regulations and policies and knowledge of best practices to maximize enrollment.
Education and experience appropriate to perform the stated essential job functions.
Ability to effectively respond to the students’, parent’s and educational organizations' questions and statements and to assist the public cooperatively and courteously.
Ability to work independently with minimum instructions, adhere to prescribed routines and practices, maintain records, and to make reports requiring accuracy.
Knowledge of the college's mission, purpose and goals and the role of Financial Aid in achieving them.
Ability to think through process changes, clearly articulating benefits and concerns to other university offices.
Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude, motivation, concern for students, teamwork, excellent time management skills, and the work ethic to follow-through on commitment to students and NEIT.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's degree (Master’s preferred) and five-plus years of financial aid/enrollment and supervisory experience. Experience with Banner Financial Aid and Slate are a plus. Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both written and oral), presentation experience, customer service skills, supervisory skills, and ability to be a member of a team. Energetic, flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends.
