Reporting directly to theChief Operating Officer, the individual will oversee all financial operations including accounting, grants and contracts management, compliance, audits, reporting, budgeting, and financial strategy. This individual will supervise a team (currently three direct reports) and serve as a key thought partner to the leadership team, playing a vital role in sustaining the organization’s financial health and driving strategic decisions.

  • Maintain financial systems and records in full compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and federal regulations.
  • Lead a timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process.
  • Supervise and mentor finance team members (two Finance Managers and one Accountant); foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Monitor and improve internal controls and financial procedures to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted net assets.
  • Lead a collaborative, organization-wide annual budgeting process.
  • Develop and maintain cost allocation plans and indirect cost methodologies.
  • Generate monthly financial statements, cash flow forecasts, and budget-to-actual reports for programs and departments.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to program leaders and executive management on fiscal planning, operational decisions, and scenario modeling.
  • Ensure financial data is accessible, actionable, and aligned with organizational goals.

Grants & Contracts Management

  • Lead all financial aspects of government and foundation grants and contracts, including budgeting, reporting, invoicing, and compliance.
  • Manage a master schedule of grant and contract reporting deadlines and ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Oversee the preparation of federal drawdowns, reimbursement requests, and subrecipient monitoring.
  • Work closely with program staff to ensure financial alignment with scopes of work and compliance requirements.
  • Support closeout processes for grants/contracts, ensuring proper documentation and reconciliation.

Audit, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison for annual financial audits and IRS Form 990 preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and funder-specific regulations (e.g., 2 CFR Part 200).
  • Regularly update and implement financial policies and procedures to reflect best practices and legal requirements.
  • Identify and manage financial risks proactively; recommend mitigation strategies to leadership.

Board Engagement

  • Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.
  • Support the COO in managing board relations, including coordinating finance-related communications and updates.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit accounting and finance, with at least 7 years in a management or leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing federal grants and contracts in a nonprofit setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, implement systems, and build cross-functional collaboration.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial staff and board members.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and vision of Hispanic Access Foundation.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fully remote environment.
