We are seeking a Director of Finance who willprovide strategic leadership and oversight for the Basic ScienceConsortium Finance team within the Johns Hopkins University Schoolof Medicine, supporting the financialmanagement needs of multiplebasic science departments and academic units through a centralizedfinance structure.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee the production and reconciliation of annual operatingand capital budgets
  • Maintain continuous involvement with leadership to ensure thatall factors are considered for the annual budget.
  • Oversee the development of financial reporting systems for theassigned area.
  • Oversee the establishment and implementation of systems forforecasting, requesting and managing capital funds
  • Create and maintain KPIs designed to maximize the financialperformance
  • Coordinate the creation and use of business intelligencetools
  • Oversee and perform financial analyses of actual and budgetedperformance as required to maintain control and address financialissues.
  • Responsible for production and maintenance of monthly financialstatements and reports

  • Conduct financial analysis for program/product development
  • Participate in the development of financial models to supportservice lines
  • Develop and/or monitor compliance with financial policies andinternal controls

  • Serve as a mentor to the department's financial staff todevelop key career growth skills and opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or relatedfield.
  • Ten years progressively responsible financial managementexperience.
  • Financial planning experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience,and additional related experience may substitute for requirededucation beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, tothe extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Position Overview

The Director Finance provides strategic leadership and oversightfor the Basic Science Consortium Finance team within the JohnsHopkins University School of Medicine, supporting the financialmanagement needs of multiple basic science departments and academicunits through a centralized finance structure.

  • Lead a centralized, shared-services Finance team supportingmultiple Basic Science departments and academic units, withresponsibility for allocating and redeploying finance resourcesacross units as business needs, workload, and prioritieschange.
  • Serve as the primary finance liaison among Basic Sciencedepartment directors, department administrators, facultyleadership, School of Medicine Finance, and other Johns Hopkinscentral financial and administrative offices.
  • Provide financial leadership and support for faculty-specificactivities unique to an academic research environment, includingfaculty recruitment, retention and compensation planning, researchprogram growth, and establishment or transition of facultylaboratories.
  • Lead the financial implementation of cross-departmental andSchool-level organizational initiatives affecting the BasicSciences, including department consolidations, administrativerestructures, shared-service changes, and transitions of financialresponsibilities between organizational units.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent Consortium-wide approach tofinancial operations across departments with differingorganizational structures, funding portfolios, and business needswhile ensuring departments receive appropriate individualizedsupport.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involvingcommunity contact requires documentation of immune status againstRubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella(chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received theTdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may includedocumentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicellavaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratorytesting. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases areordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except forthose employees who provide results of blood tests or immunizationdocumentation from their own health care providers. Anyvaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no costin our Occupational Health office.
