Director of Finance & Data Analytics

About the Role
A mission-driven nonprofit organization in NYC is seeking a Director of Finance & Data Analytics to work closely with the CFO and lead financial planning, analysis, reporting, data analytics, and revenue management. This is a hands‑on leadership position that combines strategic financial planning with accounting oversight and technology-driven process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead FP&A, including annual budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and multi-year planning.
- Develop financial models and analyze programs, contracts, and organizational performance to support strategic decisions.
- Partner with department leaders on budgets, cost management, and financial planning.
- Oversee financial reporting, dashboards, and data analytics using Tableau or similar tools.
- Manage the revenue cycle, including billing, invoicing, collections, cash application, and reconciliations.
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, month‑end close, and other accounting activities.
- Support audits, compliance, internal controls, and government/institutional contract reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate finance processes using AI, technology, and emerging tools.
- Evaluate and implement financial systems, reporting tools, and process improvements.
- Lead and mentor finance team members while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
- Present financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; MBA, MPA, or CPA preferred.
- 6–8+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, accounting, financial reporting, or financial analysis.
- Strong expertise in FP&A, financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing staff, projects, or functional areas.
- Experience with government, institutional, nonprofit, or grant‑funded contracts strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office; experience with Tableau, ERP systems, and financial reporting platforms preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve financial workflows and analysis.
- Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
- Highly organized, proactive, collaborative, and adaptable in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment.
