Job summary

The City of Redding is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee accounting, auditing, internal controls, payroll, revenue and expenditure recording, and budget control, directing long‑range financial planning, debt issuance, capital assets, grants, and purchasing functions.

Under the City Manager, this role leads citywide budget development and financial planning, oversees the Treasurer's Office administration, and collaborates on strategic direction while ensuring compliance with city policies.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct the accounting, auditing, internal controls, accounts payable, payroll processing, revenue and expenditure recordation and budget control, long‑range financial planning, debt issuance and administration, capital assets, grant accounting, purchasing functions and oversight of the Purchasing Officer
• Lead citywide budget development and financial planning in support of the City Manager
• Oversee the administrative functions of the City Treasurer's Office and collaborate on the City's strategic direction

Job description

The City of Redding is now accepting applications for the position of Director of Finance.

Under administrative direction of the City Manager, plan, organize, and direct the accounting, auditing, internal controls, accounts payable, payroll processing, revenue and expenditure recordation and budget control, long‑range financial planning, debt issuance and administration, capital assets, grant accounting, purchasing functions and oversight of the Purchasing Officer, and other financial and information activities of the City and other legal entities controlled by the City; lead Citywide budget development and financial planning in support of the City Manager; oversee the administrative functions of the City Treasurer's Office without assuming the duties or authority of the elected City Treasurer; and serve as a collaborative member of the City's leadership team in developing and implementing the City's strategic direction.

Examination Process:

Selection Process:

Final appointment is contingent upon:

• Positive past employment references
• Review of a driver history records.
• Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check.
• Passing a pre‑employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test.

Veteran’s Credit:

Applicants who attach a copy of their DD-214 to their application indicating “Honorable Discharge” from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
