Job summary

flyExclusive is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee financial reporting, internal controls, and investor-ready information. You will partner with the CFO, CAO and FP&A to ensure accurate US GAAP accounting, SEC reporting, and capital planning in a multi-segment aviation business.

Office-based in Raleigh, NC, you will lead a growing finance team, drive SOX readiness, and collaborate with operations, MRO, legal, IT, and commercial teams to deliver strategic insights and robust financial

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Active CPA required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with public accounting background preferred.
  • Direct SEC reporting (10-Q/10-K) and US GAAP knowledge required.
  • SOX/internal controls experience; ability to lead and partner with senior leaders.
  • Proven leadership of accounting teams and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all segments with accuracy and deadlines.
  • Research and apply US GAAP in technical accounting for complex transactions.
  • Coordinate external audits and manage the audit process.
  • Direct day-to-day accounting operations and policy governance.
  • Drive SOX readiness and maintain robust internal control framework.
  • Partner with CFO/FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning.
  • Support investor materials, earnings prep, and board communications.
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing accounting team.

Job Summary

The Director of Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for the integrity of the company's financial reporting, the strength of its internal control environment, and the quality of financial information that supports decision-making across a complex, multi-segment aviation business. This individual will own core accounting operations while partnering closely with the CFO, CAO, Sr. VP of FP&A, and Director of SEC Reporting & Technical accounting on SEC reporting and technical accounting, capital planning, forecasting, and investor-facing deliverables.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting & SEC Compliance
    • Drive efficiencies and assist the controller in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all business segments, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to deadlines.
    • Serve as an in-house resource assisting the Director of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting for technical accounting research and the application of U.S. GAAP to complex transactions (revenue recognition, leases, business combinations, equity, and financial instruments).
    • Background in technical accounting memos and auditor-defensible documentation of application of U.S. GAAP
    • Coordinate with external auditors and manage the audit and review process, including preparation of supporting schedules and resolution of accounting matters.
  • Accounting Operations
    • Direct day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll accounting, and intercompany transactions.
    • Establish and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and a standardized chart of accounts across charter, Jet Club, fractional, MRO, and aircraft sales activities.
    • Oversee reconciliations and ensure the balance sheet is well-supported and clean at each reporting period.
  • Internal Controls & SOX
    • Assist Director of Internal Audit in design, implementation, and maintenance of a robust internal control framework, driving the company's SOX readiness and ongoing compliance ahead of its transition out of non-accelerated filer/Emerging Growth Company status.
    • Document key processes and controls, identify gaps, and lead remediation efforts in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Promote a culture of control ownership and continuous improvement across the finance organization.
  • Financial Planning, Analysis & Business Partnership
    • Partner with the CFO & FP&A department on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning, and translate financial results into insights for operational and executive leadership.
    • Identify cost synergies and drive accountability in partnership with business unit leaders across the organization
    • Support analysis of aircraft utilization, unit economics, and segment profitability to inform capital allocation and margin improvement initiatives.
    • Direct involvement in earnings call prep, investor deck support and board/audit committee materials
  • Treasury & Capital Support
    • Support cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and debt and financing arrangements, including aircraft-related financing.
    • Assist with due diligence, modeling, purchase accounting, and integration for M&A and other strategic transactions.
  • Leadership & Development
    • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting and finance team, setting clear expectations and creating a pipeline of talent.
    • Foster cross-functional relationships with operations, MRO, legal, IT, and commercial teams to ensure finance is a trusted business partner.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Active CPA.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including a foundation in public accounting (Big 4 or national/regional firm strongly preferred).
  • Direct, hands‑on experience with SEC reporting (10-Q/10-K) and technical accounting in a public‑company or audit environment.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations and demonstrated ability to research and document complex accounting positions.
  • Experience designing and operating internal controls, with knowledge of SOX requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with peer finance leaders (e.g., SEC Reporting, Internal Controls) in a shared‑leadership structure.
  • Proven people‑leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in aviation, transportation, capital-intensive, or asset-heavy industries.
  • Experience with 404(a) and 404(b) distinctions and compliance.
  • Familiarity with lease accounting (ASC 842), revenue recognition (ASC 606), and business combinations (ASC 805).
  • Experience supporting a company through an IPO, SPAC transaction, M&A, or other significant transformation.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and financial reporting/consolidation tools.
  • Advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Accounting).
