Job summary

Vaco Recruiter Services seeks a Director of Finance in the RTP area to lead accounting and financial operations, including reporting, budgeting, audits, and cash management. This role acts as a key advisor to executives while balancing strategic leadership with hands‑on day‑to‑day finance duties.

The ideal candidate has at least 7 years in nonprofit finance, with experience presenting to executives or boards, and prefers a CPA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA highly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience with leadership in nonprofit settings.
• Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership or boards.
• Experience with restricted funds, grant accounting, investment reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and finance operations, including month-, quarter-, and year-end close.
• Oversee general ledger, AP/AR, cash management, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly statements, variance analyses, and executive reports.
• Develop and manage annual operating budget and monitor performance.
• Present results and forecasts to executive leadership and Board.
• Oversee investment reporting with external advisors.
• Lead annual audit process with external auditors.
• Ensure nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, donor restrictions, and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with operational leadership to improve financial processes and reporting.
• Supervise and mentor a small accounting team.
• Serve as primary administrator for financial systems and workflows.

We are recruiting a Director of Finance for a well‑established organization in the RTP area. In this role, you will lead the accounting and financial operations to include the oversight of financial reporting, budgeting, investments, audit coordination, cash management, and compliance while serving as a key financial advisor to executive leadership. • Present financial results, forecasts, and key performance metrics to executive leadership and the Board.
• Oversee investment reporting and monitor organizational assets in partnership with external advisors.
• Lead the annual audit process, coordinating with external auditors and preparing supporting schedules and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, donor restrictions, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Partner with operational leadership to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, and organizational efficiency.
• Supervise and mentor a small accounting team while fostering professional development and accountability.
• Serve as the primary administrator for the organization’s financial systems, identifying opportunities to improve reporting and streamline workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA highly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibilities within a nonprofit organization or related environment required.
• Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership or governing boards.
• Experience with restricted funds, grant accounting, investment reporting and related accounting.
