Solarcore is an advanced materials technology company that develops the most scientifically innovative thermal solutions on the planet. We are on a mission to solve the world’s largest thermal efficiency problems by revolutionizing the antiquated world of thermal insulation.
We're seeking a hands-on Director of Finance with strong experience in both accounting and financial planning & analysis (FP&A). The right person for the role can thoughtfully move between working on a forecast model, performing a balance sheet reconciliation, entering a month end journal entry, answering a manufacturing cost question, to having an executive discussion in the same day.
This role is for someone who's had a track record of being a highly engaged individual contributor, who can execute independently while helping build scalable financial processes.
The Finance Team will consist of this role and the existing Controller. The Director of Finance will report to the Co-Founder/COO and the Controller will report to the Director of Finance. The Director of Finance will work closely with fractional operations support contractors as well.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Own and execute the company’s financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes. Build and maintain detailed financial models, analyze performance against budgets, identify trends and risks, and provide actionable recommendations to the leadership team.
- Financial Modeling & Strategic Planning: Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts, scenario models, long-range financial plans, and financial assessments of new business opportunities, capital investments, and manufacturing expansion initiatives.
- Manufacturing & Operational Finance: Partner with manufacturing and operational leaders to analyze production costs, inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), margins, and capital expenditures. Develop financial tools and reporting that support operational efficiency, profitability, and informed decision-making.
- Financial Reporting & Performance Management: Prepare and analyze monthly financial and operational reporting, including budget-to-actual variances, key performance indicators (KPIs), revenue trends, margins, and cash flow. Translate financial results into clear recommendations and executable action plans.
- Accounting & Month‑End Close: Work closely with the Controller to ensure timely and accurate month‑end close, financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations, and GAAP‑compliant reporting. Be prepared to personally execute accounting activities as needed.
- Cash Management & Capital Planning: Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity needs. Develop cash runway projections and support financial planning for capital expenditures, manufacturing growth, and future funding requirements.
- Financial Systems & Process Improvement: Evaluate and improve financial processes, reporting tools, internal controls, and accounting systems. Build practical, scalable processes that support accuracy, efficiency, and continued company growth.
- Cross‑Functional Business Partnership: Work directly with the COO and functional leaders to evaluate financial performance, manage spending, assess growth opportunities, and support operational and strategic business decisions.
- Audit, Compliance & External Reporting: Partner with the Controller and external advisors to support annual audits, tax compliance, financial reporting requirements, and appropriate financial controls.
- Executive, Board & Investor Reporting: Support the development of financial reporting packages, presentations, and analysis for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and investors. Assist with capital‑raising activities as needed.
- Finance Team Leadership & Development: Provide leadership and direction to the Controller while remaining actively involved in the day‑to‑day financial work. Help strengthen the finance function and develop scalable systems and capabilities as the company grows.
