Job summary

PAUL VI PASTORAL MINISTRY CRESTON seeks a Director of Religious Education and Youth and Young Adult Ministries to provide vision and leadership for catechetical and evangelization efforts at Holy Spirit Parish in Creston, IA. The role oversees RE and youth programs from pre-K through young adulthood, recruits volunteers, and fosters active family participation in sacramental life.

Qualifications

• Practicing Catholic in good standing or enrolled in OCIA.
• Experience planning programs and leading groups or classes.
• Background in theology, education, or youth ministry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directs the Wednesday evening RE for Holy Spirit Parish (Grades 1-10), Sept–May.
• Coordinates sacramental preparation, parent meetings, logistics, and dates for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
• Selects curriculum resources in consultation with Pastor and school principal; teaches RE lessons as needed.
• Lead the transition of the parish’s religious education to align with the new diocesan Confirmation plan.
• Plans and executes ministry programs, events, and outreach for children, youth, and young adults.
• Forms and runs the Youth Leadership Team.
• Integrates youth into parish life through liturgy, devotions, hospitality, service projects, and altar server training.
• Organizes youth retreats and Confirmation service opportunities with parish staff.
• Recruits, trains, mentors, and evaluates volunteer catechists and adult youth mentors.
• Manages safe environment compliance with background screenings and VIRTUS training.
