Job Description
Reporting to the superintendent or their designee, the Director of Facilities provides leadership and oversight for the planning, operation and maintenance of the Monson Public Schools ensuring that all facilities and grounds are safe, well-maintained, and responsive to the evolving needs of academic programs, staff, students, and the broader school community.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in engineering, building trades, or related field (demonstrated applicable experience may be considered instead of education).
- Seven to ten (7-10) years of facilities maintenance or management experience required with a minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory capacity preferred.
- Possession of a Massachusetts driver’s license with good driving record.
- Experience with snow plowing and snow removal.
- Superior knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques relative to building maintenance and care.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems and the ability to complete routine maintenance of these systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse individuals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise, facilitate and coordinate all maintenance and custodial tasks of Monson Public Schools’ facilities and grounds, including 3 school buildings, athletic fields, parking areas, and central office facilities.
- Develop long and short-term maintenance plans/programs (e.g., emergency response plans, pest management, annual budget, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring district resources are effectively utilized.
- Oversee and inspect new construction, renovation, repairs, preventative maintenance and capital improvement projects, ensuring compliance with approved plans, schedules, budgets, and applicable building, safety, and accessibility codes.
- Provide direct supervision of all maintenance and custodial staff, perform personnel functions (e.g., interviewing, evaluating, supervising) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
- Develop and maintain a cleaning plan for each facility, identifying frequency of and responsibility for each cleaning task and ensure staff have necessary training to complete each task.
- Manage building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and energy management systems, along with preventative maintenance programs and service contracts including facility rentals.
- Lead and sustain environmentally responsible facilities and grounds practices, including energy conservation, recycling, integrated pest management, and the use of environmentally preferred products.
- Assist the Superintendent and Director of Business & Operations in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the district’s Capital Improvement Plan and long-range facilities planning.
- Supervise and provide direction to outside contractors and other vendors performing maintenance functions on buildings and grounds.
- Supervise and/or perform various maintenance tasks, including basic carpentry, painting, masonry, equipment maintenance and furniture repair.
- Serve as the primary liaison with municipal departments, public safety officials, utility providers, and community organizations regarding facilities and grounds operations.
- Ensure district compliance with OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, and state and local safety, health and procurement laws.
- Ensure snow removal and ice treatment operations are completed as efficiently and effectively as possible to minimize disruption to school.
- Perform weekend building checks as needed to monitor for emergencies (for example checking building heating on weekends of extreme cold).
- Coordinate summer repairs for school opening inspection.
- Monitor supply inventories and order supplies when necessary.
- Oversee the preparation of rooms and buildings for meetings and other events.
- Available on an on-call basis as needed.
- Perform similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

Requires extensive walking, reaching, standing, stooping and climbing when performing various job-related functions. Occasionally required to lift, move equipment which may weigh up to 100 pounds. Physical agility is required to access all areas. Requires the ability to work on ladders, staging and scaffolding. May spend entire shift engaged in physical activity. Vision and hearing correctable to normal ranges.
SALARY
$80,000-$90,000 per year
