Job summary

Monson Public Schools is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks ensuring safe, clean, and functional buildings and grounds. You will support the district’s mission by maintaining facilities, responding to emergencies, and assisting with grounds and custodial duties.

Position is full-time, 12 months, with a salary range of $40,000 to $52,500 per year. Immediate starting date. Valid MA driver’s license and relevant experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of experience in building or facilities maintenance preferred.
• Valid Massachusetts driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Experience with snow plowing, snow removal, and grounds maintenance preferred.
• Working knowledge of carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems and general building maintenance.
• Ability to safely operate power tools, lawn equipment, snow removal equipment.
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently and with staff, contractors and vendors.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to respond to emergencies outside of normal hours.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and routine repairs to school buildings, grounds, equipment, and furnishings.
• Complete work orders involving carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, masonry, drywall, flooring, and general building repairs.
• Assist with inspection, maintenance, and minor repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities and grounds to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
• Perform seasonal grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, landscaping, leaf removal, and upkeep.
• Perform snow and ice removal from sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, driveways, and other district property.
• Apply sand, salt, or ice control materials as necessary.
• Assist with setting up and breaking down classrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums, athletic facilities, and meeting spaces.
• Assemble, install, move, and repair furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
• Maintain tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment in safe operating condition.
• Monitor building systems and promptly report equipment failures or safety hazards.
• Assist outside contractors performing maintenance or repair work.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and notify supervisor when replenishment is needed.
• Follow OSHA regulations and district safety procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Head of Maintenance, the Facilities Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, custodial support, and grounds maintenance duties to ensure that Monson Public Schools' buildings, grounds, and equipment remain safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained. This position supports the district's mission by providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and the community.
