Professional Educator Standards Board in Olympia, WA seeks a Director of Communication and External Relations to guide public messaging, strengthen external partnerships, and promote the agency’s value with educators, policymakers, and Tribal Nations. You will lead equity-centered communications and collaborate with internal teams to implement campaigns across diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, journalism, or a related field.
• Five or more years of relevant experience in communications or public relations.
• Ability to communicate across cultural, linguistic, and community differences, including equity and Tribal Sovereignty.
• Experience with education organizations, policymakers, Tribal nations, and partners.
• Understanding of Tribal sovereignty and government-to-government consultation protocols.
• Ability to work independently and in team environments; travel to board meetings across the state.
• Significant experience in providing strategic communications guidance for complex policy initiatives.
• Proficiency in website and document accessibility guidelines to ensure ADA compliance.

Responsabilités

• Write, edit, and design agency communications materials for varied audiences.
• Ensure materials are accurate, accessible, and culturally responsive.
• Develop and implement communications plans and talking points.
• Provide media and outreach guidance for meetings and conferences.
• Translate complex policy information into accessible language for diverse audiences.
• Support Tribal Liaison in maintaining government-to-government relationships.
