Director of Environmental Engineering, Land Development
Maverick Engineering Midland, Texas
Position: Director of Environmental Engineering – Land Development Classification: Full-Time, Exempt Location: Midland, Texas Reports To: CEO
Maverick Engineering is seeking a Director of Environmental Engineering – Land Development to lead and grow the firm’s environmental engineering capabilities in support of residential subdivisions, master-planned communities, commercial development, and municipal infrastructure throughout Texas and Utah markets.
This position is for an experienced professional who understands that successful land development requires more than regulatory compliance. It requires identifying environmental and development constraints early, finding practical solutions, working collaboratively with civil engineers, surveyors, developers, municipalities, and contractors, and keeping projects moving from raw land to finished communities.
The Director will integrate environmental engineering into Maverick’s land development process from initial property evaluation and due diligence through entitlement, design, permitting, construction, and final project closeout.
The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with the practical, responsive, client-centered approach expected at Maverick Engineering.
The Director’s mission is straightforward:
Identify environmental risk early, develop practical solutions, protect the client’s investment, and help Maverick move land development projects forward.
This position will serve as the environmental engineering leader within Maverick’s multidisciplinary land development practice and will work closely with civil engineering, surveying, CAD, project management, construction, and development teams.
Participate in projects from the earliest stages of development, including raw-land evaluation, conceptual planning, due diligence, entitlement, engineering design, permitting, construction, and final acceptance.
Work directly with Maverick’s land development team to identify environmental constraints before they negatively affect project layout, lot yield, infrastructure costs, schedules, or development economics.
Lead or coordinate environmental due diligence for prospective development properties.
West Texas development frequently requires working around existing infrastructure, easements, oil and gas activity, drainage challenges, and historical land uses. The Director must be able to translate these conditions into practical recommendations for developers and Maverick’s engineering teams.
Provide leadership regarding applicable federal, Texas, and local environmental requirements.
The expectation is to solve problems quickly and professionally, while protecting the client and Maverick Engineering.
The Director will have the opportunity to build and expand Maverick’s environmental engineering practice.
The Director should approach the position as a practice builder, not simply a project manager.
As a Director within Maverick Engineering, the position will have a significant client-facing and business-development role.
The Director will:
The Director should understand that strong client relationships are built by being responsive, knowledgeable, practical, and dependable.
The Director will be accountable for the business performance of environmental engineering projects.
As the practice grows, the Director will participate in establishing annual revenue, backlog, utilization, and business-development goals.
Success in this position will be measured by the Director’s ability to:
This person can stand on an undeveloped West Texas property with a developer, surveyor, and civil engineer and quickly begin identifying what could prevent that property from becoming a successful subdivision or community.
The Director of Environmental Engineering will help Maverick Engineering provide clients with a more complete land development solution—from the first survey of raw land through engineering, environmental clearance, permitting, infrastructure construction, and ultimately the creation of successful communities across West Texas.
