Job description

We're looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to lead our backend engineering team. You'll be responsible for the technical vision, architecture, and execution of our platform that serves thousands of logistics companies and processes millions of GPS data points daily.

This is a leadership role that balances hands-on technical contribution with team management, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll report directly to the VP of Engineering and play a key role in scaling our engineering organization.

What You'll Do

• Lead and mentor a team of 8-12 backend engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
• Define technical strategy and architecture for backend systems and infrastructure
• Drive the execution of complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Frontend teams to deliver features that delight customers
• Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and development processes
• Make build vs. buy decisions and evaluate new technologies
• Own backend system reliability, performance, and scalability
• Participate in hiring and building out the engineering team
• Provide technical leadership on system design reviews and architecture decisions
• Balance technical debt with feature development to maintain velocity
• Contribute hands-on to critical technical challenges when needed

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in engineering leadership
• Deep technical expertise in backend systems, distributed architecture, and scalability
• Strong experience with Python and modern backend technologies
• Proven track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams
• Experience leading multi-quarter technical initiatives from conception to delivery
• Strong communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and DevOps practices
• Track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing senior engineers
• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make decisions with incomplete information
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• Bonus: Experience in B2B SaaS, logistics/transportation, or real-time systems
