Job summary

You will lead the engineering group, drive delivery of the platform with stakeholders, and uphold reliability and performance across NetSuite-based workflows, BigQuery data pipelines, and internal apps hosted on Vercel. On-site collaboration is required.

Ogden, UT | On-Site | Reports to VP of Systems (Jordan Brandley)

About the Role

HydroJug runs its operations on internal systems its own team builds — the applications, integrations, and data infrastructure that the operations, finance, and support teams depend on every day. The Director of Engineering owns the delivery of that platform: what gets built, in what sequence, and whether it ships on time. You will lead the engineering group, sit directly with stakeholders across the business to turn their needs into scoped projects, and hold the reliability bar for the systems the company operates on.

The scope of this role is internal business systems and data infrastructure — not the consumer storefronts. You partner with the VP of Systems on technical direction and major investment decisions, and own project delivery, team leadership, and execution outright.

Responsibilities

• Delivery Ownership — Own whether the right systems get built and shipped on schedule; manage projects, priorities, and engineering capacity, and communicate tradeoffs directly when commitments compete
• Stakeholder Intake & Scoping — Meet with leaders across operations, finance, warehouse, and support to understand what they need, and translate it into specifications, sequenced projects, and clear commitments
• Team Leadership — Lead, develop, and grow the engineering team; set the performance bar, run code review and delivery standards, and hire into open seats as the group scales
• Architecture & Technical Standards — Make the architectural calls for the internal platform, including the shared brand-dimensioned data model, service boundaries, and integration patterns; enforce testing and release discipline
• Reliability & Performance — Hold uptime, data accuracy, and performance for the systems operations and finance run on daily; own incident response and the remediation that follows
• Integration & Data Infrastructure — Own how the stack fits together: NetSuite as the operational backbone, BigQuery as the data warehouse, internal applications deployed on Vercel, and the third-party integration layer
• Platform Roadmap — Partner with the Product Manager (Systems) and the VP of Systems to shape and defend the engineering roadmap; sequence build-versus-buy decisions and manage technical debt deliberately
• Hands-On Contribution — Stay in the work where it counts: hard problems, architecture, and setting the standard by example rather than reviewing from a distance

Qualifications

Required

• Several years leading and growing software engineering teams, with direct ownership of delivery commitments
• Track record of building and scaling production systems, including internal business applications and integrations
• Enough hands-on technical depth to make architectural decisions independently and hold the team's technical respect
• Demonstrated ability to work directly with non-technical business stakeholders and convert ambiguous requirements into shipped software
• Experience owning system reliability for platforms other teams depend on operationally
• Sound judgment on when to move fast and when to build durably — and the ability to explain which applies and why

Preferred

• ERP experience, particularly NetSuite, in a multi-entity or multi-brand configuration
• Cloud data warehouse experience (BigQuery or equivalent) and ownership of analytics-adjacent infrastructure
• Ecommerce, retail, DTC, or consumer-goods domain background
• Experience standing up engineering process — code review, testing, release cadence — on a team that did not previously have it
• Experience leading a team that builds heavily with AI tooling

Reporting & Organization

Reports to the VP of Systems (Jordan Brandley) and leads the Engineering group on the Systems team, with the current engineering staff as direct reports and additional open seats to hire as the function scales. Partners closely with the Product Manager (Systems) on roadmap intake, the Director of Data Analytics on the shared data platform, and department leaders across operations, finance, and warehouse as the primary internal customers of the platform. On-site in Ogden, UT.
