Job summary

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center seeks a visionary Director of Emergency Services to lead 24/7 operations, patient flow, and clinical excellence in a high-volume trauma center.

You will drive throughput, staffing, regulatory compliance, and strategic improvements across departments, partnering with medical leadership to ensure safety, quality, and exceptional patient experience while advancing organizational priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field.
• 5 years of leadership experience in emergency department or acute care operations.
• BLS certification (AHA) or American Red Cross certification.

Responsibilities

• Directs 24/7 Emergency Department operations, ensuring safe, timely patient care.
• Leads throughput and capacity management, including triage, bed assignment, LOS, and surge response.
• Coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges with medical leadership and hospital operations.
• Develops and evaluates clinical and operational initiatives to improve quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Oversees staffing models, scheduling, and workforce deployment to match volume and acuity.
• Maintains accountability for budget, labor productivity, and resource utilization.
• Ensures compliance with EMTALA, CMS Conditions of Participation, and Joint Commission standards.
• Leads disaster preparedness and coordination with partners during mass casualty events.
