Overview

Power EPC Senior Consultant at Talisman Advisory Partners

Location: Remote (US)

An engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced, motivated Director of Electrical Engineering with expertise in power systems studies and advanced modeling to join our leadership team. This is a fully remote position available to candidates anywhere in the United States.

A full-service electric utility solutions engineering firm with more than twenty years' experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance and operations. The company offers comprehensive power system engineering services to investor-owned, municipal, cooperative, government, industrial, and commercial customers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage electrical engineering teams performing complex power systems studies and analysis
  • Direct short circuit, load flow, arc flash, coordination, and stability studies using eTAP and SKM software
  • Oversee protection and coordination studies for transmission and distribution systems
  • Develop comprehensive power system models and simulations for utility-scale projects
  • Provide technical leadership for renewable energy integration studies and grid modernization projects
  • Review and approve electrical designs, calculations, and technical specifications
  • Manage project portfolios including scheduling, resource allocation, and client deliverables
  • Interface directly with utility clients to understand system requirements and present technical solutions
  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, NERC, and utility standards for power system studies
  • Lead technical proposals and business development efforts for power systems consulting services
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers in advanced power systems analysis techniques
  • Stay current with industry trends including smart grid technologies, energy storage, and distributed resources
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on substation design and system protection projects
  • Conduct technical reviews of protection settings and coordination schemes
  • Provide expert witness testimony and technical support for regulatory proceedings
  • Develop standard methodologies and best practices for power systems analysis
  • Manage client relationships and ensure successful project delivery
  • Travel: Up to 25% to client sites nationwide

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university; MS preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 15+ years of experience in power systems engineering with focus on studies and modeling
  • Expert proficiency in eTAP and SKM PowerTools software packages
  • Advanced knowledge of power system protection, coordination, and control systems
  • Strong background in transmission and distribution system design and analysis
  • Experience with renewable energy integration and grid interconnection studies
  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and complex projects
  • Deep understanding of utility operations, planning, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with PSCAD, PSS/E, or other advanced power system simulation tools
  • Strong business acumen with experience in client relationship management
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for executive-level interactions
  • Track record of successful project delivery and team development
