Job summary

Campaign Legal Center seeks a Director of Electoral System Reform to establish and lead a new program focused on proportional representation and ranked-choice voting. The role involves shaping policy, coordinating across teams, engaging with coalitions, and guiding advocacy through state and local reforms.

Telework and flexible work options are available. The role requires deep voting rights expertise, substantial policy advocacy experience, and strong writing and research capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Twelve years of work experience, including seven years in federal or state policy advocacy.
  • Substantive expertise in voting rights and elections.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to CLCs mission and nonpartisan orientation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and communicate effectively.
  • Experience with structural electoral reform is preferred.
  • Experience leading or navigating coalitions on advocacy campaigns is preferred.
  • JD preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead CLCs work on electoral system reform, including proportional representation and ranked choice voting.
  • Oversee policy work with organizations and leaders seeking structural electoral reform at state/local levels.
  • Coordinate internal work across teams to advance this body of work.
  • Coordinate federal advocacy with the Director of Federal Advocacy and others.
  • Serve as a thought leader and spokesperson for CLC on reforms.
  • Establish or deepen relationships with national/state/local partners and coalitions.
  • Conduct research, write testimony, policy briefs, and talking points.
  • Identify opportunities for advocacy through strategic litigation or defend reforms from challenges.
  • Support fundraising with grant proposals and reports; meet with funders.
  • Develop strategic communications plans with the Communications team.
  • Hire, supervise, and mentor staff as needed and budgeted.
  • If licensed attorney, support litigation activities with cross-team collaboration.
